Our story
Pleased to Meet You
Founded in 2015 by self-taught artist Taylor Mahlke, Pen+Pillar is known for designs that transform everyday items into works of art.
Inspired by walks in nature, historical pattern making, and a touch of nostalgia, her hand-painted creations reflect a whimsical and eclectic style filled with intricate details.
Pen+Pillar is run by Taylor and her husband, Justin. They live in North Carolina with their three kids, two dogs, and two cats.

How a pattern is made
From painting to pattern
Each design starts as a painting by Taylor, a bouquet, a quilt block, a creature in a garden. Then it is repeated, piece by piece, into a pattern for the things you carry and keep.
